TRIEX-II: facility for characterization of tritium extraction technologies from lead-lithium
Application sectors
Problem to solve
Characterizing the performances of prototypical tritium extraction technologies from lead-lithium.
Description
TRIEX-II is an experimental facility designed to perform hydrogen isotope extraction tests from lead-lithium. The working fluid used is eutectic lead-lithium (PbLi). The facility essentially consists of a storage tank, where the entire quantity of PbLi is stored during non-operational phases of the facility (about 150 liters), a permanent magnet pump, a saturator that injects the desired hydrogen content into the PbLi, and an extractor, which serves as the test section and enables the experimentation of different hydrogen extraction technologies from PbLi. The circuit is made with ASTM A335 Gr. P22 piping, with a size of 1", and can operate up to 500°C and 10 bar.
Innovative aspects and advantages
- The previous development of prototype sensors for measuring hydrogen concentration in lead-lithium makes the facility the best solution for experimenting with tritium extraction technologies and potentially new measurement sensors.
- The size and flexibility of the facility make it unique worldwide.
Admissible applications
- Experimenting and characterizing tritium extraction technologies from lead-lithium
- Testing sensors for measuring tritium concentration in lead-lithium
