Qualification test of electron components and devices for Space (ESA ESCC and MIL Standard)
Application sectors
Problem to solve
For the use of electronic components and devices in the Space sector, it is necessary to perform qualification tests according to recognized standards (ESA ESCC 22900, Issue 5 or MIL STD 883). In the case of Total Ioning Dose (TID) tests, specific gamma irradiation and treatment parameters are required (in terms of radioactive source, absorbed dose, dose intensity, post-irradiation annealing treatments) and available at the Calliope gamma irradiation facility (Lab. NUC-IRAD-GAM, ENEA Casaccia R.C., Rome). The facility is also ISO 9001 certified and validated by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for the execution of this type of test. Potential customers: public and private institutions and users involved in the Space sector.
Description
TID qualification tests of components and electronic devices for Space according to standard regulations (ESA ESCC 22900, Issue 5 or MIL STD 883). Dedicated set-up specific for the execution of tests of interest; experimental dosimetric measurements (also for specific requests of the customer); availability of premises for the experimental measures during the test; possibility of performing tests under voltage, in modified atmospheres, at different temperatures; remote test management with on-line measurements; issue of Test Report according to ISO 9001 certification; possibility of carrying out annealing tests under post-irradiation voltage as per the regulations.
Innovative aspects and advantages
- Extended shelf life: Slows down spoilage and microbial growth, allowing for longer preservation.
- Improved food safety: Eliminates or reduces pathogenic microorganisms, thereby lowering the risk of foodborne illnesses.
- Minimal impact on sensory and nutritional qualities: Unlike thermal treatments, it does not significantly alter taste, color, texture, or nutritional value.
- Reduction of food waste: By increasing the durability and stability of food products, losses along the production and distribution chain are minimized.
- Reduction of pest insect populations in an environmentally friendly way, without the use of pesticides (SIT), and assurance of reliable and recognized measurements, essential for food quality and safety (metrological traceability)
- Performance of dedicated dosimetric measurements
- Possibility to adapt the test to the needs of the Customer
- Step or continuous irradiation with wide choice of dose rate values
- Support of the Calliope Facility team for test organization and execution
- Tests performed according to the ISO 9001 certification
Admissible applications
- Total Ionizing Dose (TID) test according to standard specification ESA ESCC 22900 (Issue 5)
- Total Ionizing Dose (TID) test according to standard specification MIL STD 883
