Problem to solve
The materials characterization and qualification require different investigation techniques, which are complementary to each other, to perform a complete study of both their morphology and their chemical-physical features. The Laboratory for the chemical-physical characterization of materials includes several instruments aimed at carrying out a complete, timely and precise analysis of materials, allowing us to provide an exhaustive answer to the request of determination and evaluation of eir properties.
Description
The infrastructure is equipped with: a laboratory for the preparation of metallographic samples (cutting, embedding, polishing, chemical attacks to counter phases and structures). It is also equipped with hoods and glovebox for handling in inert atmospheres; a morphological and structural characterisation laboratory equipped with optical and metallographic microscopes, a scanning electron microscope (also operating in low vacuum for insulating materials) with EDS module for chemical microanalysis, an X-ray diffractometer for crystallographic analysis; a physical-chemistry laboratory equipped with UV-Vis spectroscopy and atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) for the chemical analysis of solid and lquid samples; a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and a transient plane source equipment for studying the thermal properties of solids. The facility is also equipped with fume hoods for handling chemical reagents and ventilated cabinets for their storage.
