Problem to solve

The problem is the dispersion of the expertises and of the instrumentation related to different characterization techniques, which implies the lack of integrated approaches comprising the adequate skills. Users will be those who deal with the synthesis of materials and also people needing broad-spectrum spectroscopic characterization.

Description

The facility consists of laboratories spread over a total surface area of ??80 m2, located in the T21 building of the C. R. Casaccia, with instrumental equipment ranging from the most common techniques of optical and laser spectroscopy to extremely innovative ones, and is therefore able to satisfy the needs of an exhaustive spectroscopic and laser characterization of biological materials and systems, also thanks to the multidisciplinary skills of the working group. In particular, there are: •FTIR microscope •Raman microscope with different excitation energies •Fluorometer •UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer •THz-TDS system • Confocal fluorescence microscope •Nonlinear Raman

Innovative aspects and advantages

  • Possibility of developing innovative laser diagnostics for particular applications
  • Presence in a single infrastructure of a set of optical and laser spectroscopy techniques to characterize different materials of interest in the fields of energy, chemistry, and in the life science and agro-food sectors.
  • Working group with multidisciplinary skills that allow us to characterize materials of interest in different sectors

Admissible applications

  • Application of spectroscopic and hyperspectral imaging techniques on cell cultures and plant and animal tissues
  • Morphological, structural and compositional characterization of materials in the fields of energy and chemistry
  • Non-invasive and non-destructive diagnostics on artistic heritage artefacts
