Dinamometer chassis for hybrid and electric vehicles

Problem to solve
The energy and environmental impact of vehicles, especially in this transition phase, is becoming increasingly important. Roller bench testing of vehicles to measure efficiency, consumption and emissions, on reference driving cycles, such as homologation cycles, but also cycles measured on the road, constitute a powerful tool for evaluating vehicle characteristics. Furthermore, it is possible to carry out targeted experiments on the individual components that make up a vehicle, but also on different fuels, with a lower environmental impact.
Description
The facility consists of a roller bench for light-duty vehicles and an adjacent control room. The maximum power of the electric machine connected to the rollers is 100 kW and allows a maximum speed of 160 km/h. All reference driving cycles can be set and driving cycles measured on the road can be used and reproduced on the roller bench. The system also contains a latest-generation portable system (PEMS) for measuring vehicle exhaust emissions, the HORIBA OBS ONE and a whole series of sensors connected to the bench control system for measuring all electrical, mechanical and thermal parameters of the vehicle.
Innovative aspects and advantages
- Automatic execution of cycles autonomously without a driver, with greater precision
- Measurement, on fixed driving cycles, of consumptions, emissions and many other parameters thanks to a new data acquisition system
- Testing of alternative fuels, including hydrogen
Admissible applications
- Measurement and testing of the electric vehicles range on dynamometer chassis running different driving cycles
- Measurement of the environmental impact of vehicles
- Measurement of the performances and consumption of conventional, hybrid and electric vehicles
