Problem to solve
Sustainable management from the perspective of circular economy of the most impactful fraction of municipal solid waste, i.e. the biowaste.
Description
The electromechanical composters of the Enea "Waste and Secondary Raw Materials" laboratory accelerate the aerobic composting process through mechanical mixing/aeration of the organic waste and control of some process parameters. The machines in our possession have one or two separate chambers. In the case of a single chamber, the machine consists of a continuously operating rotating cylinder where the active phase of the composting process takes place. The machine has a loading mouth and the material that is unloaded passes to the maturation phase in simple piles. The two-chamber composter works in batch mode, so the organic material is continuously delivered for a maximum duration of 30 days and is subsequently matured in the same chamber, while the second chamber is loaded with further organic waste. The composters are watertight, do not have a waste shredder and operate at 400 volts. The electromechanical composters in use at the RMP laboratory are machines modified for research needs and are therefore different from the current composters sold available on the market.
Innovative aspects and advantages
- Process control different from the solutions currently installed on the electromechanical composters available on the market
Admissible applications
- Composters for the valorization of the organic fraction of urban waste
- Sustainable and circular management of biowaste
- Treatment of biowaste for the production of compost/soil improver
