Chemical-physical analyses for the characterization of materials and the detection of trace substances
The NUC-TNMT Section, compliant with ISO 9001, applies nuclear methods and techniques for safety, monitoring, traceability, and CBRN risk mitigation. Analyses of environmental matrices, food products, samples of CBRN interest, or cultural heritage are performed using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for isotope identification, Raman spectrometry for non-destructive material analysis, a CN analyzer for quantifying carbon/nitrogen in solids and liquids, and a digital optical microscope with profile measurement and 3D reconstruction.

Problem to solve
The traceability of products and processes is verified through chemical and physical analyses, tracing the origin of materials and foods to identify fraud involving the use of raw materials and processes other than those declared.
Description
The NUC-TNMT Section, compliant with ISO 9001, applies nuclear methods and techniques for safety, monitoring, traceability, and CBRN risk mitigation; it develops and conducts methodologies and experimental studies for nuclear applications in biomedicine, the environment, and materials. These activities are conducted on environmental matrices, food products, samples of CBRN interest or cultural heritage, etc., using technologies such as the triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for isotope identification, Raman spectrometry for the non-destructive analysis of materials through the characteristic recognition of molecular vibrations, the CN elemental analyzer for determining the amount of carbon/nitrogen in solid and liquid samples, and the digital optical microscope with profile measurement and 3D image reconstruction.
