C-scan automatic ultrasound mapping system for components

Use of hardware and software systems for ultrasonic mapping of components with complex geometry and of any size

Application sectors

AerospaceEnergySmart factory - capital goods for industry and servicesMaterialsBuilding technologies for infrastructure monitoring and safetyTechnologies for the environment and circular economyTransportation - Land and marine mobility vehicles and systems

Problem to solve

Ultrasonic mapping systems are applied in the industrial world but their use is limited in resolution, speed and adaptation to complex geometries. The ENEA system solves these critical issues through the use of dedicated instruments and advanced data acquisition systems that allow to increase both resolution and performance. Furthermore, the use of dedicated software allows the control of complex geometries

Description

The developed system uses electromechanical devices, instruments and ultrasonic probes to check for internal defects with precision and resolution. It also examines the geometry of the artifact in terms of thickness and internal cavities

Innovative aspects and advantages

  • Automatic search for defects inside components
  • Fast acquisition of ultrasound data
  • Ultrasonic mapping on components with complex geometry and small/large dimensions
  • Use of ultrasonic probes with frequencies above 30 MHz
  • automatic processing of acquired data for the reconstruction and visualization of ultrasonic maps
